The CTBUH 10th World Congress dinner was a momentous evening combining a tribute to the Beaux-Arts Architect’s Ball of 1931, in which famous architects dressed as their building creations, and a 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Council’s growth and achievements, as well as its vision for the future of urban habitation. Many of the buildings on CTBUH’s recent list of the 50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the Last 50 Years were represented in costume, including Burj Khalifa (Dubai); One World Trade Center (New York City); Aqua at Lakeshore East (Chicago); Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur); Salesforce Tower (San Francisco); TAIPEI 101 (Taipei); and U.S. Bank Tower (Los Angeles).

The US$1,000 prize for the “best costume” of the evening went to Darin Cook, Senior Associate Principal, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, as Petronas Towers. To conclude the evening, a cake, topped with a bold, fondant-covered “50” in the Council’s signature blue was brought out as 445 delegates joined in to wish CTBUH a happy anniversary.
